Maksim Valeryevich Bure (born December 31, 1971) is a Russian former professional ice hockey player who played in the National Hockey League (NHL) for 12 seasons. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Russian hockey players of all time.
Bure was born in Moscow, Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. He began playing hockey at an early age and quickly rose through the ranks of the Soviet youth system. In 1989, he made his international debut for the Soviet Union at the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships.
In 1991, Bure was drafted into the NHL by the Vancouver Canucks with the sixth overall pick. He immediately made an impact in the NHL, scoring 34 goals in his rookie season. Bure played for the Canucks for five seasons, during which time he became one of the most dangerous scorers in the league.
In 1996, the Canucks traded Bure to the Florida Panthers, where he continued to excel. In the 1999-2000 season, Bure led the Panthers to the Stanley Cup Finals, where they lost to the Colorado Avalanche.
After leaving the Panthers, Bure played for the New York Rangers and St. Louis Blues. He retired from the NHL in 2005 due to injuries.
Bure was a member of the Soviet Union national ice hockey team that won the gold medal at the 1992 Winter Olympics. He also represented Russia at the 1998, 2002, and 2006 Winter Olympics.
Bure was known for his exceptional speed, agility, and finishing ability. He was one of the most feared shooters in the NHL, and his slap shot was one of the hardest in the league.
Bure is married to Candace Cameron Bure, an actress and author. They have three children.
